Default R320 [W251] Reversing Camera retrofit

Firstly, Thanks for your advice on the parts as per earlier thread.

Unfortunatly after installing all said items & a trip to Mercedes to program the command system, we are a little stuck:

We have 2 wires that we need to find a location for,
1x Orange Can Hi wire in the rear (I guess for the reversing light)
1x White/Black wire with plug (we thought would go to the instument panel, but no place for it)

Mercedes have no idea where these two go, so will not help.
They also said that they have looked into the command & can not find any way of it switching the camera on....... so will not go any further as it might blow the command system.

Any advice, wiring diagram etc would be of great help.

    Thanks

    John

If you are using a factory wiring harness and a factory wiring diagram it is impossible to get this wrong. How can people employed by Mercedes even make such comments.

You need to give them the URL of this forum so we can tell them what they already know.

    Parts as required:
    -------------------------
    Factory body harness
    Factory tailgate harness
    Factory camera modulator
    Factory camera

Precisely how can they stuff it up. There is only these connections.

    - Power
    - Ground
    - Reversing lamp
    - Video

There is no connection to the cluster.

Ok I dont mind saying that its ok for DIY but the support offered at the dealership should be better.

    At the COMAND end.
    -----------------------
    Green plug to video port

    At the Camera end
    ----------------------
    Video cable to modulator

    At the modulator
    ---------------------
    Connector for camera
    Connector for body harness

    At the body harness
    ----------------------
*Power from rear SAM (fuse box) - dedicated blue connector
*Ground point near phone module - near rear seat
*Wire for reversing lamp ... black and white (according to my memory) crimps to tail lamp.
    * Video cable goes from modulator to COMAND (or just to TV tuner).

    Coding of head unit
    ----------------------
    Reverse camera = PRESENT

There is not much to go wrong really. Either it is connected or it isnt.

Just to expand to help: -

Power from SAM is red/black cable to pin 1 on the 'modulator' box
Brown is ground (pin 2 on modulator)
White/Black is reversing lamp connection (3 on modulator) which you just connect to the reversing lamp wire on the nearby rear lamp set, which goes to pin 4 on that, white coloured wire (but I think theres more than one white), which serves to turn on the modulator when you go into reverse.

There isn't an orange wire - it could be brown.
