Smile Audio 20 CD to Audio 50 APS Upgrade

    Hi -

1st things 1st - My car is a CLK240 (incase my name didn't give it away ) Cabriolet, 2005, facelift model.

I have bought an Audio 50 APS Mid Headunit (part No. A209 870 2289 Date of manafacture 21/07) to replace my currently fitted Audio 20 CD coupled to an existing CD changer in the glovebox.

I have read through reams of internet info before swaping the units over to make sure I had covered everything and found this site really useful indeed thanks !

Once I had swapped the units over, the Audio 50 unit appears to work fine but I don't seem to be able to access the CD changer in the glove box ? (no, I don't mean I have jammed the glovebox shut ) Is this because the Audio 50 unit needs to be coded or re-programmed ?
I understand I need to have the Sat Nav facility enabled by a garage with a Star Programing unit but thought the CD changer may be recognised without having this done ?
    I also plan to install a 'Kufatec Fiscon' Bluetooth kit;
KUFATEC GmbH - FISCON Freisprecheinrichtung Mercedes "Basic"
which a friend is selling me cheap ! and appears to meet my requirements. Its also worth noting that this bluetooth kit from what I can make out won't interface with the CLK COMAND as it is not NTG2.5 - hence me going for the Audio 50 unit which is NTG2.
So, when I have the garage enable the Sat Nav display on the dash can I also have the phone function enabled too, before I fit the phone kit ? and similarly the IPOD part enabled too ? as I plan to fit this at a later stage.
    Questions, questions, questions
Finally, the Audio 50 came without its CD's So I have had a dig around and from what I can find out it looks like I need Part number B6 782 3894 'Orange' but I recall reading somewhere that the firmware may need a flash upgrade ? Can you give me any advice on this ?

    Many thanks indeed,

    Chris

Yes, the 'AGW' needs to have it's MOST ring order set to include the CDC - it is currently set to ignore it's fibre optic bus so it never sees the CDC (there is an internal optical bypass). Tell whoever is coding it to code it as though there is a phone in there also if you are going to add one.

As you know, the cluster also needs to be told there is Navigation present.

Get the garage to check the AGW firmware is up to date when coding it. Last firmware update for AGW was in 2006 though.

The DVD based COMAND in CLK is NTG2. NTG2.5 is the new units with bluetooth built in (and in the case of COMAND, map held on hard disk).

I have no experience of the kufatec device.

The Audio-50-APS disks for E/CLS (NTG1) have just been replaced with 2009/2010 versions, so I would expect the A/B/C/CLK... (NTG2) version to happen soon.

If you are near Woking, talk to sales@comandeurope.com who will code (etc) for you.

    Update on the above .....

I had 2 very helpful chaps at sales@comandeurope.com re-code my CLK and provide really useful advise to me - Full marks to them - they come with the highest recomendation !
I subsequently fitted the Audio 50 inplace of the Audio 20 with CDC and all went very well. I now have SatNav display on the cluster + allround tyre pressure monitoring + outside temp displayed permanantly + amount of fuel left in tank in Gallons ! They also gave me help with an electric seat issue that I have now resolved and advise on removal of various dash panels etc.

    Well worth a visit !
