Default '05 w220 comand swap (USA -> Europe)

Hi, new to mbguru. Thanks in advance for any advice. I am considering purchasing a euro comand (w/video) to replace my us comand (w/sat) for my '05 s500 4matic. Does anyone know whether the other functions will work? Phone, bluetooth, map/nav, cd changer, am/fm/wb, etc. Again, thanks so much!!!

We're mostly not in North America, but this is what we believe...

    a) As the nav drive in your car is seperate, navigation should work fine
    b) There is no Weather band or Sat Radio outside North America, so those wont work
    c) We've seen issues with ML's which have EU head units put in (when they are brought to Europe) where the phone book won't transfer from the phone any more - but not always. Bluetooth is part of the phone system rather than COMAND so should be fine
    d) CD changer will work fine
    e) As your car has seperate AGW and that has the tuner in it, we think your radio will work fine - we don;t know whether you will get RDS text or not on the head unit. (if you got it already, then we think you will)

I hope that helps, but please take this as guidance and let us know how you get on.

    Richard

Thank you very much, Richard. I have been pondering on whether I should buy this comand on ebay from euro-customs or not. I don't want to subscribe to Sirius satellite radio anyway so I figure video would be a good alternative. I don't use the weather band either.
I am likely going to buy it and I will let you know if it works. It's nice that the install is quite easy. Just 4 torx screws and a butter knife.

Default Too good to be true

Hi, Richard. The USA -> euro comand on my 05 s500 (w220) was an easy install. NAV, radio AM/FM (even with RDS), CD changer all worked fine. Having issues (states not installed) with phone/bluetooth - I don't know if using CDMA (& not GSM) is causing problem. Also, unable to play US DVDs while stationary (region problem). Can't access changeable engineering menu. I think maybe Star Diagnosis can fix these issues but if I can do it myself, it will save me some. Thanks again for your help.
