Question Comand System - Nav Map Orientation and DVD Capability

I picked up a very very nice CLK '08 plate the other week and I am delighted with it. Only a few niggles with the COMAND system that I wouldn't mind a view of.

1. Sat Nav : Map orientation..I prefer the Map to always be oriented to my direction rather than N is up , S is Down etc. I have gone in using the manual and the item which allows you to change the orientation 'view' button is greyed out. Am I missing something obvious?

2. DVD Function : Does it need a sperate DVD Player? Will it not work by putting a DVD in the Sat Nav drive? Seems a shame if true but it seems to be the case. It just says 'No Video' when I put a DVD in.

Any assistance would be good.. thanks in advance..

1) Try this when navigating, rather then when no destination is active. I think thats when I changed mine

2) Sadly it wont, the NTG2 COMAND system (which is what you have) has no MPEG2 decoder in it. so can't play movies

I just tried this on a 2007 ML, which has the same NTG2 comand system as the CLK:

Press MAP button
Press any of soft keys around display so the soft-key names are shown
Press the soft key for 'Display'
Press the soft ket for 'View'

and there are 2 possible options in there, one for north and one not

But if that route leaves your View button grey, then something else is up. What map disk do you have in there ?

I am a bozo!

I followed your instructions here and yep I got the thing. I think what I had always done was try this within the NAV option instead of just going straight to the MAP. It's one of those things that is so obvious and yet I could swear i did everything right and even did this before but I guess not...

Thank-you so much....i am even happier with my Merc now
