Default TV Option on Comand no longer working [W210]

    Hi all
I am new to this site and was seeking some assistance on an issue that I have.
I have a 2002 W210 e55 AMG. It has the Comand system with the TV option.
This was working until last Saturday when my battery went flat. We have a service here is Australia called RACV and they came out and replaced the battery.
This replacement then cause me many issues of which I have been able to resolve all bar the TV.
    Issues post batter change:
    1. Windows no longer worked as before
    2. Sunroof no longer worked as before
    3. holding the lock key no longer closed all windows and sunroof
    4. ESC and ABS warning lights appeared...also message appeared asking me to take the car to the service centre.
    5. when pressing the TV button, I get the message "No Tv!".

all bar item 5 above, i have fixed.
I also checked the link in this site that has the commands to enter the comand systems Diagnostic mode area and found that error code:
B1779 Fault in CAN communication with TV Tuner was still active.

Does anyone here know how I can resolve this without taking the car back to Mercedes?

    Thanks.

Did you perhaps have the key in the ignition when you changed the battery ?

Problems 1,2,3 are called window adaptation. You will find the memory seats are also clueless after losing power.

Problem 4 - you turn the steering wheel lock to lock.

Problem 5 - check that you still get power to the TV. There can be 2 causes for this problem. First is a TV tuner failure and the second a Private CAN-BUS failure between the TV and the Tuner. The latter only applies if you still get audio.

Unfortunately, while it is just a battery you are much better off with the Mondial service at $120 per year. The phone number is stuck on the top right corner of your windscreen.

    Hi BenzModz
Thanks for your quick response. I have noted the resolutions to all items for next time (in case).
Re the TV, no audio is present. The key was in the ignition. Perhaps the change of battery has removed the settings for the TV tuner.
In any case, I have the car now booked at Mercedes here in Melbourne to review. I really want RACV to cover these costs. I will also look at the Mercedes roadside car option.
    Thanks.

By having the key in the ignition you probably damaged the TV tuner or blew its fuse.

In the best possible situation 20 cents for a fuse and in the worst about $4000. It depends on where you source the parts and what actually blew.

Just an update on this. I have taken the car to Soundlabs Group in Melbourne where the guy replaced my TV tuner unit with another reconditioned one and the TV worked on the Comand. This meant that the Comand, wiring and fuse were all o.k. and that the issue was solely around the TV tuner unit.
He then took apart my unit and found one of the chips to be damaged. The actual reason he could not pin point.
The reconditioned unit is going for $1000. Are there any other places via the web or other forums where I could look to purchased a 2nd hand TV unit for my W210 2002 E55?

YOu can get these sensibly priced in UK now as we're dropping analogue TV and switching to Digital

If you use Search4CarParts it will help you find one

Theres one on ebay in Germany A220 820 15 97 from a S class (its the same for that year) for 250 euros, which is under 400 AUD I think

There is also A220 820 18 97 which is better as it's AUX inputs are RCA and it supports NTSC and that is 350 euros

Do not buy one for Japan cars..

    Hi Richard,
Thanks. I actually contacted the guy that had the one for $250 Euros and sent him pictures of mine. Confirmed to be o.k and I purchased it. Waiting on delivery.
Next I need to investigate options around analog to digital conversions if possible.
