Where do I place the GPS antenna on a 2005 CLK 55 Coupe? On the C-Class it is located next to the center vents under the dashboard, but the CLK has different vents and layout. When pulling out the radio unit for the CLK I don''t have the same access or space the GPS antenna as for the C-Class. Thanks!

Alternatively the air vents can be removed and the antenna placed along side them again under the dashboard. These are removed by carefully prising up the kidney shaped trim that sits between the two vents. Releasing the four screws that hold the vents in and then using the pulling hooks, release the retaining tabs and pull. |

Many thanks for the reply.
I will place the GPS antenna on top of the instrument cluster. I assume when having the right pulling tool the instrument cluster can be pulled out enought to attach the antenna, or do I first need to unplug the connectors at the back of the instruments? The OEM MB A001 820 7675 Retrofit GPS antenna and A211 820 00 88 antenna cable adapter cost about $250 at MB dealerships in California. The adapter cable appears to only be needed in order to have a FAKRA plug since the OEM GPS antenna appears to be the older style antenna. On E-BAy aftermarket GPS FAKRA antennas for MB can be found for $25 - $79. Will such an antenna work as well as the OEM antenna (A001 820 7675)? Thanks again! GPS FAKRA antenna w/3 meter cable. Many thanks for the reply!
I would think that placing the antenna close to the vents would be a potential problem since the antenna could be exposed to heat and cold temp? I will try to place it on top of the instrument cluster instead under the dashboard as recommended. I noticed that the OEM GPS antenna doens't have a FAKRA plug so that a short adapter cable is needed. Looks like the OEM GPS antenna is standard and has been used for the older Comand units as well? The set cost about $200 in at a dealership in California so expensive, while Chinese made aftermarket GPS antennas can be found on E-Bay for $25 with FAKRA connector. Do you recommend using the MB OEM antenna or will the after market GPS antenna do just as well when installed under the dashboard? Thanks again! |
