Default D2B Or Most (W211 phone cradles)

    I have a 2004 W211 320cdi, WDB2110262A540655, with a phone carrier A2118201451 for a Nokia 6310i. the Russians say this vin has a 830 code option.

I am looking to replace this carrier if possible for one which holds a 6230i telephone.

If i cannot replace i need to find another carrier as the one i have has damaged pickup springs. Any suggestions were i might find one without having to pay MB prices?

If this goes to Richard then thank you for your articles
    regards,

    John

Default W211 E class broken phone cradle

    Hi lutters

You have the phone system with the fixed Nokia 6310i cradle - which is option 380 (or 382 when MB supplied a 6310i handset aswell) rather than the system with changeable cradles which is called UHI and is option 386 (or 388). It can only be changed for the same and as you have found out that part A211 820 14 51 is rather costly at the UK dealerships (about £203)

The damage you refer to with the bent pins is very common, and a new replacememnt is available here at a better price: -
Comand Online Ltd :: Phone Cradles & Adapters :: W211 (new E class) Nokia 6310i cradle with curly cable.

If you look in the 'member special offers' area http://www.mbguru.com/member-special-offers/ comandonline normally have a discount voucher code for members which will reduce the price further.

Installation of the replacement phone cradle is simple, remove the screws that hold the tray into the top section of the centre glovebox (which are underneath the top section) and it all comes apart easily. You need a small TORX driver to undo them.

If you then want to use a different phone you can add a ViseeO MBU-1000 (also available from above) which will give you bluetooth connection to the other phones - it sits in the 6310i cradle so you have to fix that issue first.

    Default replaced cradle

richard, i have at last purchased a replacement cradle form command com but my system still does not connect to phone. I have checked the phone on a friends car to prove operation and and have had a look for broken/chafed wires at the arm rest end. The phone is charging by the way. My next job is to carry out a continuity check of the wiring from the 10 pin plug, i guess, back to the controller.

Have you any suggestions as to how to check out the wiring/system and whether you could recommend a reliable centre in this area should i become stuck (Kent).

I have this week seen a W211 where the microphone controller had failed, this meant that the car's internal microphones (4 of them!) didnt work, which is possibly the same symptom that made you decide to change the phone cradle.

The other things I noted for this failure mode were that you could be heard by the far end in privacy mode (i.e handset picked up, proving the connection between cradle and phone was OK, but not between cradle and car or anything else) and I think also that the 'Mic Off' soft button (visible during a call) was also permanenetly greyed out.

Replacing the £286 microphone controller in the compartment under the trunk floor near the back seat fixed the issue. If you talk to sales@comand.co.uk (Alfie on this forum) I think he has a used one at a more sensible price. Or if you fancy a trip to Woking he'll sort it out for you I'm sure.

    Cheers

    Default Phone

    Thanks Richard,

Whilst the phone is charging in the cradle, the car is saying no remote on the centre dash! I will look to Alphie for his comments. I'm wondering what a star diagnostic scan would show!

He'd certainly be able to work out what is wrong. Its not the microphone controller though but it could be the phone controller (more likely than the wiring if you've changed the phone cradle itself)

    Default All Well At Last

As Richard suggested phone controller was duff and Mark aka Alfie swopped it out and with the purchase of a Visseo 1000 bluetooth i'm up and running. Not cheap but satisfactory.
