Hi ,,when the update firm ware from the sat nav dvd gets updated,,does it get update in to the command unit at the center console or it gets up dated to the sat nav drive at the boot of a

No, just the firmware in the navigation drive

Firmware in head unit gets updated with a disk in the head unit. The last update for W211 COMAND NTG1 was the 'Model Year 2007' version of the software which adds the ability to display the Estimated Time of Arrival at the bottom of the navigation map whilst navigating.

Firmware in the AGW (amplifier, tuners, fibre-optic controller) is done with Star Diagnosis. The last update for AGW was in early 2006 - this (on my car!) corrected a problem with TMC traffic jams being shown on the wrong side of the road in UK where we drive on the other side of the road compared to Germany.

Just to add to this that since version 8 of the NTG1 navigation disks the correct firmware for the navigation drive has been included on the disk so there is no need for any separate drive update.
