    Default Can I install The Steering wheel from a 2010 SL550 Into a 2004SL500?

I'm doing an interior face lift on my 2004 SL500, im retrofitting the command nav unit from a 2010 SL550 into my 2004 SL500, i was wondering if i could install a steering wheel (3 spoke non paddle shift or paddle shift) into my car, i dont mind if the shift buttons work or not, i just would like basic functions like the horn, airbag and volume controls etc to work. thanks guys!

As far as I know it can be done however, the cost includes a new steering spiral. Perhaps also a new cluster.

Having facelifted my 2004 SL to the 2009 hard disk COMAND, etc, these are the things that will bite you

    a) Ensure you get the 2009 frame for the COMAND not the MY05->MY08
    b) You will need new cupholders, they are remarkably expensive
    c) You will need a new instrument cluster or your steering wheel controls for the stereo, the display of audio/nav info, and linguatronic lever wont work
    d) Fit linguatronic lever at same time
    e) PM me, I have some of the wooden trim that you will need, new is very expensive
    f) If you have BOSE you will need to remove it and replace by HK
    g) If you have TV and want to upgrade it, you have to remove the dashboard to replace the antenna amps
    h) If you are going to replace the antenna amps get a complete new wiring harness (copper, and fibre optic) and you'll have to also run a wire from the OCP to the connector point on harness in left wiring duct near rear
    i) I'd install Media Interface and Comfort Phone at the same time, this will need a new centre glovebox (by the cheapest MY2009 one and switch the side panels from you existing on) - you will also need the frame under the wood trim and a new air pipe as you have to disconnect the air feed to the centre armrest as it is no longer cooled from about MY05 and instead the Media Interface connector goes there
    j) I put in DAB (digital radio) at the same time, you may like to consider SAT radio if you are in USA, or DAB if not. However, if doing DAB you need to put a new bracket in the boot and a new boot left hand carpet trim (as the bracket is bigger) - the new carpet is not needed for MY2005 onward cars.

    Hope that helps

    Richard
