Default Retrofitting comand ntg 2 on w164 [and TV, reversing camera]

    Hello,

I have just bought a used comand aps NTG2. I want to install it on my 2007 ML 320 CDI. After having spoken with MB dealership-Cyprus they said that they can code the comand and make it work. My concern is how(and if) i can add a TV tuner, dvd player and rear view camera as well. How can i make sure that the comand has the green fakra? (It i still in it's box). What is necessary to use in order to make all these possible? After researching the net i found that DVBLogic is a pack that offers all that+free tv but it can only be installed if the comand has the green fakra. Im not sure if mine has it though.

    Regards,

    Vassilis

First you need to find out what you have purchased. Then it will be easier to answer.

Yup, as Benzmodz says, open the box and have a look. Make sure the unit is a W164 unit (part number A164 xxx xx xx) and it has a green fakra

You have 2 choices, factory or aftermarket .. I'd go factory as it all integrates beautifully on the W164 .. I can't give advice on aftermarket as i've only ever done installs using all genuine parts.

If you are installing reversing camera and NOT TV tuner, the reversing camera connects to the green fakra, and COMAND is told it has a reversing camera, then it just takes that NTSC video feed when reverse is selected and displays it.

If you are installing TV, the TV tuner connects to the green Fakra, the reversing camera then connects to AUX input 1 on the TV tuner, so a different loom is required.
TV tuner goes on the fibre optic bus, so COMAND is told it has that, and when it finds it it enables the menus for TV. If you have reversing camera than COMAND knows to select TV AUX-1 when you select reverse.
With factory TV there are 3 antenna amps (one on rear screen, one on each side rear window (the ones in the boot/trunk area), so ensure your side rear windows have the antennas in them - all UK cars seem to, I don't know about every where else. You can see the antennas, brown fork like wires built into the window glass.

    Cheers
