Hi i have an 08 mercedes ml350 base model no bluetooth,i would like have this feature any idea what i need to get or my other question is that if i purchase an w164 audio system model;mf2840 part #a1649001901 with built in bluetooth system would i just be able to swap out my current system and get this new one to work without modifications.

To put the new unit in (and that is a great way to add the phone system), you need some small wiring changes, a bluetooth antenna, a splitter for the FM/AM antenna, a microphone and if you have an iPod kit to modify that for the new unit (AUX is wired slightly different)

You'll need to visit the dealer to get the phone menu enabled (if it isn't already) in the cluster. Most US cars seem to come with the phone menu enabled (but saying "no phone")

how about adding navigation in addition to the bluetooth

In that case, you need the kit above, and a suitable COMAND navigation unit, and a GPS antenna.

The navigation unit will probably need coding by a Mercedes dealer for your car

thank you Richard I looking to purchase a used command unit with us spec it came out of an 09 ml320 bluetec it has bluetooth,navigation and dvd built in what would I need to do to install this unit into my 08 ml350 to get everything to work.

You will need a clever inpendant workshop with Star Diagnosis to configure the unit if it came out of a car that was different spec to yours.

Please note that if your car has Harmon Kardon, you will have to replace the HK amplifier and wiring loom, and this makes it a big job

how would I know if I have an Harman Kardon command unit

PM me your VIN and I will check.

Harmon Kardon is the enhanced speaker system in the car. Given you have the base model and only Audio-20 it is very unlikely the premium sound system is in it (and you will have Harmon Kardon written on some of the speaker grilles)
