    Question Comand Resets Radio Intermittently

Hi there - I posted on this problem before at another forum, but did not get very far, so turning to you for advice.

Car is CLS320 MY2006, VIN: WDD2193222A071952 with comand APS NTG1 - I assume that dealer updated it to latest SW back in June 2010 (NAV shows ETA and phone signal strength).

Problem is that once a week or so, when I start the car, the comand takes about 10 to 15 seconds to come to life and - when it does - it has reset the radio station to the 1st preset, the traffic announcement has come on and the volume is higher than normal. Everything else is fine (i.e. I usually leave it on the 'MAP' display and it remains there).

Has anyone seen this before ? - Could it be a weakened battery ? (I have checked the voltage and it is usually 12.2V just before ignition start).

    Any ideas / guidance ?

PS. I have managed to get into the 'engineering menu' but the 'diagnostic' button gives me a listing which looks strange (i.e. not like the Bxxx 0xxxxx ... listings I have seen before). I can get the SW versions if this helps.

Any ideas ? - Many thanks in advance.

I think you probably have a failing AGW. The AGW is the radio tuner (diagnostic gateway and ampliifer).

Firstly I would pull the fuse for the AGW (its the 40A one about 6-7 up in the fusebox on the side of the boot) and then put it back in about 10 seconds later - this may fix the problem.

Then I would get the dealer to check that the firmware on the AGW is fully up to date - there was a firmware update issued in early 2006. [This needs Star Diagnosis, the Mercedes diagnostic computer, to update it]

If not, it may need a new AGW

    Cheers

    Richard

    Thank you Richard.

I will try the fuse out / in and see if this cures the problem. I will also ask the dealer to do a check on the AGW when the car goes in for a service in a couple of months' time (or earlier if it decides to fail completely).

    Thank you !
