Default COMAND APS adding CD changer unit

Hi.
Just bought an E320 estate late 2006 with COMAND APS installed. Dealer thought it had changerin head unit like late models but when I proved him wrong he knocked some money off to seal the deal. Don't need a changer but would like one. MB dealer advised >£1000 to install (as the wiring is not there) and suggested i-Pod upgrade but have seen 2nd hand changers on t'internet. Can anyone advise if the wiring (incl. fibre-optic cable) should be there? I have the instructions from another thread on how to remove the lower console so will give this a go if no-one can help.

Cheers

Nothing will be there - but its easy enough

You need a changer (get one of the later MP-3 compatible ones, they have MP-3 written on the part number label) and an install kit

Comand Online Ltd :: Other Mercedes Retrofits :: Mercedes CD Changers :: CD Changer fitting kit for W211/W219 E/CLS Class

Red face

Hi Richard

Thanks for help so far.
The wiring kit has arrived but I have no manuals to work to and there are no instructions. I have the instructions from another thread on how to remove the lower fascia and Comand unit.
I am guessing most of the wiring goes straight into the Comand unit but there is a supply wire with a fuse that goes off in one direction, and 2 earths and a pink wire with a female crimped terminal going off in another.
The website you steered me to says you can install in 1/2 hour, but I am doubtful bearing in mind the length of the wires so need some guidance on routing and eventual destination of these wires please.
Or alternatively a good source for a workshop manual that will show me what I need.

Cheers

Hi Guys

Have tracked down the forward fuse board and found the location that the fuse goes in so power cable will be no bother. Also had the COMAND unit out and I'm a bit confused where I connect the CD changer to? Do the main connector and fibre-optic cables connect to the COMAND unit somehow or is there a bus connection hidden forward of the console? Where do the 2 (what appear to be) earth terminals and the pink wire with the tiny female spade connection go? Any help appreciated even if it's suggestion of someone I can take the car to to have it done for me. Not afraid of doing the job just don't want to mess anything up.

Thanks again

Garvey

Sorry for delay - email comand online they will send you instructions.

Pink wire goes to wakeup connector in left sill wiring duct where you will find a block with lots of same pink wires in.
Ground goes to a ground in a footwell.
Power goes to the fusebox at driver's end of dashboard - check fusemap in there to see which fusehole it goes in, although its colour coded in anycase.

The fibre needs to make a 'ring', so you have to open the ring up and insert the new device in using the joiner supplied, look on the connectors there are arrows for the way the light / info goes round the ring.

Hi Richard

CD changer installed and tested - all ok.
Hardest part was routing the wiring correctly, and it took me approx. 3 hours from start to finish but well worth the back pain and scratched arms/hands from doing some manual work for the first time in years!
Just need to burn a load of music on to MP3 discs now to make full use of it.

Thanks for your help and advice - wouldn't have had a clue where to start without it, (or the pictorial removal/installation instructions on 'mercupgrades').

Brilliant! Thanks again
