Default NTG 2.5 telematics update once more

Hi,

I retrofitted a HDD Comand NTG 2.5 in my wife's MY05 CLS (W219) in late 2008. I also retrofitted the Linguatronic switch.
Since then we have not updated the Comand. The datacard (code 527) is updated as well the instrument cluster.
I've been searching the forums to find an answer how to update the firmware of the Comand. It seems that in some cases the update with Star is easy but in most cases the Star does not see the Comand at all. My case is the latter one and I just spent hours and €€€ at the dealers with nil results.
So could someone confirm the following:
1. To update the telematics the Star must "see" the Comand. To enable this the dealer has to tell the Star it is an SLK (not CLS), and then use the VIN of our CLS to make the update online with MB.
2. If I need to alter the settings of the Comand (e.g. to enable rearview camera) it must be done with a Star in developer mode which does not need to be online with MB.

If I only want to update the firmware and the maps (the discs I already have, 4.1), only step 1. is required?
Or is step 2. also needed for map update only?

Best regards

What the dealer needs to do is to use Xentry/DAS (as he does normally) but tell the Xentry the car is a B class or a ML. (SLK used to work, but not always). If car has TV have to use a ML as B class can't have European TV controller as far as Star/Xentry is concerned.

Then go into the COMAND unit control unit adaptations DAS menu and do the firmware update as normal (which needs online Mercedes access). When the system asks for the chassis number enter the correct chassis number for the car.

This will update the firmware, but then fail on the SCN coding which you have to ignore (as it can never work).

The trouble with going between certain releases is that more functionality/options are added and these end up wrongly coded (i.e coded as OFF). This then needs correcting with Star Diagnosis in developer mode as you can never SCN code it as MB knows a pre 09 car can't have NTG2.5 :-)

The option that gets lost normally is the front/rear fader. ECO routing has to be enabled too to get that functionality.

V4.1 needs a certain firmware level (it is written on the packet) - but if you have that its jus a case of inserting the disks.

Dont forget V5.0 is now available: Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: Mercedes Navigation Disks :: Comand APS Map 2010/2011 for Hard Disk COMAND NTG2.5 in A B CLC W211-E CLS SL SLK ML GL R Sprinter Vito Viano

If you are near Woking (UK) then Welcome to www.comand.co.uk can do the firmware update and re-coding for you.

Now, just to add one more piece of confusion, November Star Diagnosis release came with new firmware for NTG2.5 units in Viano/Vito/Sprinter. So I suspect there may be a whole new firmware release for all cars (or they may start using that November disk for all cars) with one of the next couple of releases of Star Diagnosis software.

Cheers

Richard
