Hi, I'm new to this forum and I hope that the obvious expertise out there may be able to resolve a phone issue for me. A lot of other threads seem to cover similar problems but I don't want to start messing around with electronics until I understand it all a bit better!
To start with the car was registered in 2001 and has the Comand system with built in cassette player (so I assume its a Comand 2.5) and original (?)phone cradle in the armrest (part no. A203 820 01 51). I have an old Nokia 6210 that works fine as a mobile but when I fit it into the holder the Comand system says "Initialising Phone" and then does nothing more (and its still like that an hour later!). The holder has a slot (top right corner) that I assume accommodates a phone with a stubby aerial. Could this mean that my 6210 is the wrong phone? The local MB dealer is unsure what the problem is and has suggested that it may be something to do with the Comand unit or the PSE (I think that's the little control box under the back seat) but they couldn't get a new PSE from MB as they were on back order! I would quite like to get the old Nokia working properly and maybe also set up a bluetooth connection to go with my normal Nokia 6300. Would the Viseeo MBU1000 work as it stands now or do I need to get the basic system working properly first? Any instructions/assistance will be much appreciated. Thanks Mike |

Hi
The 2001 car may well have had a Nokia 6150 phone instead of the 6210, so has a very old phone controller in it. I would suggest trying a MBU-1000, that should work with the system - although we've seen some issues with very early versions of the 6150 phone controller just misbehaving. Speak to these guys, they will happily let you return if you have issues and may be able to get you a newer (used so sensibly priced) PSE if the system behaves a bit flakily with the MBU1000 (i.e very old PSE issue). Thanks for the suggestions.
Have now ordered the ViseeO thingy and hope that it'll work. Its a little bit difficult to actually speak to someone at Comandonline as there's always a recorded message on the phone. However, emails are promptly dealt with and I'll see how it works out and will let the forum know in due course. Its good to know that there are experts around who are willing to share their knowledge. Thanks again Mike |

Thanks Richard for your advice. The ViseeO unit arrived very quickly from Commandonline (all credit to them) and was an amazingly simple installation. It works and automatically connects with the bluetooth on my normal hand held Nokia mobile whenever I am in the car. Also, when connected, it automatically mutes the sound from the hand held so there is no duplication of sound and it all comes through the car's speaker. Uploading the phone book was a simple matter of a one button press. Dead easy.
If I have to be in any way critical it would be that incoming calls are only shown by as the incoming number, not the name in the phone book. Perhaps if I entered all the names with numbers into the linguatronic system it might be different but I haven't bothered with that yet. Its only a very minor irritation and not one I'll lose any sleep over! So thanks again, and if anyone is considering it, go the ViseeO route and spend a little more with Comandonline rather than cheaper outlets as I'm convinced that their support/advice is worth every penny. |
