Hi,
I am Giannis from Greece. I drive w203 c200 kompressor mod Feb/2002 with the M111 engine, with audio 10 and nothing else as far as ICE is concerned (no phone, no changer no nothing). I have almost finished the retrofit of the facelift model center console. Almost finished means that I have all the necessary parts. However I am having some issues which are: 1) I have a comand aps from a facelift 203. I bought the appropriate converter loom from mbsca.com. On the converter there is a double cable that must be plugged into the canbus distributor. The question is: where is the canbus distributor ? I have located the one under the driver sill (to which (according a mercedes document i have) is plugged the comand). I plugged the cable but no luck. The comand turns on and then turns off. I tried all the possible positions. I know that there is one canbus distributor over the driver's legs, somewhere behind the "handbrake" pedal. IS this the distributor I need????? 2) The ucp from the facelift has different rear connector from my original. Any suggestions of how to solve this? 3) If I get answers on the abnove questions I will be ready to perform the swap myself, but I need guidance on how to remove the glovebox!!! I have unscrewed all screws but it stil remains on position 4) I also swapped my tacho for a clk 63 amg Item. Is it possible that with star coding i will get steering wheel audio functions and audio information in the cluster?? Thank you |

I will leave Benzmodz to comment on most of the points here as he has done this before.
The COMAND turning off after displaying the Star is not a Canbus issue - it needs to be coded to say it has nothing on it's fibre optic network using Star Diagnosis. All the interior canbus distributors are connected together. PS, you did take the latch-cover distributor of the canbus distributor before plugging cable in so it is locked in place. A MY2005 onward cluster should work properly with COMAND-APS Richard |

this the description from comndonline: If you have a post MY2005 W203 C, W209 CLK, or a facelift Sprinter/Viano/Vito with a double din size and an Audio-5 and want to install DVD based COMAND or Audio-20 (NTG2) you need these adapters to install it. If you have a W169/W245 (A/B class) with Audio-5 you need our kit with the suitable facia also. This connects to the existing DIN A/B connectors in the car and to the CANbus distributor in drivers footwell, and plugs into the multilock connector on the back of the COMAND/Audio-5. It comes with the fibre optic loop so you don't have to have the COMAND/Audio-20 re-coded by the dealer for it to function. This will not work to install an Audio-20 or DVD COMAND in an older vehicle with the Audio-10 or Audio-30 as the unit will not physically fit in the vehicle. yeap i did that |

and it says there are three canbus distributors. one under the driver's sill, one under the co-driver's sill and one over the driver's legs |

He often comes to Greece to upgrade cars. Or you might be going to Netherlands. Really you should realise this job is about as difficult as it gets in terms of cost. you will start with a COMAND APS and Cluster and about 4000 Euro later you will still be spending money. This upgrade should NEVER be done on a M111 engine car.

i dont understand....
I have bought a dvd comand aps (used), an audio 20, an instrument cluster, the necessary brackets and frames, a/c unit, and ucp panel everything except the comand (which keeps going on and then off) works as expected. The Audio 20 works, so if comand fails i will still have my facelift console. The cluster works and the odometer corretction is commonly known as easy when you have the right guy the a/c works as well the ucp has exactly the same numbered pins only the plugs are different the cost of the audio 20, the cluster, the a/c, the brackets and frames and the ucp was 500 euros and if you add the comand it is about 1000 (bought it extremely well) taking out the old console was easy enough and only the glovebox is left to remove. the comand needs either coding or plugging the cable to the correct place or maybe both. If id dont put the whole set in place i plan to get the car to my indy to put it on. For him it wont be more than 3 hours job. After all mbsca did it in five hours. So considering the above i dont understand the cost estimation of over 4000 and the need of bringing steve to greece. As far as dvd and tv are concerned a good multimedia adaptor (not the OEM multimedia interface) wont cost more that 300 euros with the dvd and then I will have to add the tuner. It does not matter to me to control tv and dvd from the comand or the steering wheel. |

Well it goes like this
Change to APS. Change cluster. Change Airbag and steering wheel to operate cluster Change steering spiral to operate high beam which no longer works Change steering column to fit new spiral Change cockpit harness by removing dashboard since you need new connections to spiral Change steering lock to fit steering column Change ignition switch to operate steering lock Change front fuse box Change transmission controller since it no longer works Code transmission since it no longer operates correctly, since M111 was before the module was invented. High beam works but cruise control / limiter no longer works Change engine to M112, M113 in order to operate all functions correctly. Change gearbox Code controller again Change differential Change exhuast Did you think I was joking ? Never do this work on a M111.

let's say i did that even only with the audio 20
Done (along with its 209 frame too) Why do this? The only thing not working with my old airbag controls is radio functions. I operate all the other functions from my steering wheel.. Quote:

actually at the moment they all work. Only the cluster thinks that cruise control is inoperative Quote:
No. I am not joking either If i knew how to take the glovebox out (one of my initial questions) the swap would be over and with photos uploaded Thank you for your time Last edited by BenzModz; 08-21-2010 at 04:23 AM. |
