I have just bought a C220 CDI sport (2006) which seems to have the audio 20 fitted, what options do I have on installing a comand unit to replace the audio, is there only one model of choice for upgrade or do I have various choices of models to choose from that will fit the W203 range.

You can install the NTG2 COMAND which is what could have been installed when new, or the NTG2.5 COMAND which has inbuilt hard disk, bluetooth phone and 7 digit post-codes and is what is fitted to new CLC

I'd go with the new version myself.

For NTG2 you need unit, GPS antenna, map disk
For NTG2.5 you need unit, GPS antenna, wiring adapter kit with bluetooth antenna, microphone. You need map installation disk if unit is new.

Is there different versions of the NTG2.5 that fit different models or is it just one version that fits all cars, looking on ebay there seem to be various versions of the same model, so getting a bit confused what would fit the W203 model.

All have different facias. Most but not all have DVD changer and single disk variants. Each time there is a new firmware release or hardware change the part numbers change.

This is how the part numbers start:

W203 C class. Single disk only version: A203 xxx xx xx
W211/W219 E/CLS: A211 xxx xx xx or A219 xxx xx xx
R230 SL: May be only a DVD changer type: A230 xxx xx xx
W164 ML/GL: A164 xxx xx xx
R class: May be only a DVD changer type: A251 xxx xx xx
A/B: A169 xxx xx xx
R171: SLK: A171 xxx xx xx

A/B class units fit in Sprinter/Viano/Vito - there may be units with part numbers for those too though.

Note there is no W209 CLK unit, it had been end-of-lifed to be replaced by E class couple so never got NTG2.5

DVD changer variant can be differentiated from non-dvd changer as the eject button has a stack of disks pictured rather than the normal eject logo.

However, if buying from eBay there are an awful lot of units made up from broken units, so often you find a W203 face on a different body - these work but need to be coded. I have seen 1 unit with a DVD changer facia but no internal DVD changer.

Also, beware that newer units have PIN codes & anti-theft protection.

So I think I am understanding, the onle comand that will fit mine must have the part number A203 etc, any other like A211 will not fit. It is also expensive which is part of owning a mercedes I presume. And also looks quite complicated to install.

I take it that installation would be extra, also I assume it would be a good time to pair it up with a phone kit (nokia n96) and possibly reverse camera as I dont have sensors and ipod.

Comand Online only sells parts. Alfie, one of the Gurus here runs a fitting business and will supply & fit at a competitive price - Send him a Private Message and he will quote.

The NTG2.5 includes bluetooth telephony - but your N96 must support the correct address book transfer protocol to function.

There is no Mercedes reversing camera for the W203.
