Default Procedures for updating the firmware on NGT2.5

Hi guys, anyone has the step by step procedure to update the firmware with 01/2010 disk and Star. My NGT2.5 is fitted to an 2005 W211, everytime I need to look at the TGW I have to tell it is an SLK and when I try to update the firmware it says my VIN is incorrect. Any ideas guys
Thanks in advance

When it says the VIN number is wrong, just type in the correct chassis number for your car, and that then works.

You need to have an online login on the Mercedes coding system, what then happens is it checks the VIN (so it must be real), checks if the firmware needs updating. If it does, it asks for the disk, does the update, and then tries to SCN code the head unit which will fail at that point so you need to code it in developer mode. There are new things that appeared in different updates .. some of which need enabling or re-enabling with new coding.

Thanks Richard for the reply. So it is impossible to code it via SCN, therefore how to do it in developer mode and being offline as well. For your info My Star is developer enabled. Thanks in advance

Yes its imposible to SCN code a pre My09 car with comand NTG 2.5. It has to be done in developer mode.

As Richard says you need an online login account with MB so you must be using a genuine Mercedes STAR system not a clone.

So it is a relief that it can be done in developer mode! As developer mode is a powerful tool, I don't want to get it wrong. Can you share the steps to do it in developer mode?

Before you touch anything in developer mode, do a 'Control Unit Log' which will show all the settings. Then you can put anything back you break.

I dont think you can permanently ruin anything. Don't set 'navigation data' to off, or you will have to re-install the maps ..

Question

Thanks Richard and Alfie for the advise. THis morning I went in to "development data" and then "control unit adaptation" then "control unit programing (update) and then choose "selected" it failed then I choose parameterised xxxxx etc, it shows some strange MB code no. and ask if I want to continue which i did. then it says the process failed. Any idea guys, did I went into the right menu for firmware update? My Das 01/2010 version and the telematic disk is 06/2009 for your info.

You have to update from 'normal' mode (not development mode) and then you have to sign into the Mercedes online 'flash' service which requires a username and a password.

So, unless you have genuine Star, you can not do that - you must get the MB dealer to do that bit

If the dealer does it (they may have to tell Xentry that the car is a SLK55) then it will do the flash update (with the disk he has) and then fail to SCN code it as the SCN system knows that NTG2.5 can't be in your car. Then you have to code the unit in 'developer' mode by hand to make everything work.

Cheers
