Default w251 r-500 comand retrofit to ntg2.5

w251 comand retrofit to ntg2.5

question to experts, can someone list the list of things that are needed to be done to upgrade the DVD based ntg2.0 comand to harddisk based ntg2.5 comand 2009 model.

i have a 2006 r-500 with comand ntg2.0 with HK sound, teleaid active, no phone but prewiring under the false floor of the armrest, no RSE, no backup cam.

with the upgrade i would like to accomplish the following:
1. use the head unit built in bluetooth phone system
2. add kenwood cd2200 backup camera with hopefully already activated backup camera ready feature in the new head unit
3. use the 6 dvd changer for watching movies
4. retrofit the existing ipod kit so it works with the new head unit

thanks

You will need the following;
----------------------------

- headunit
- map (for uploading)
- minor correction to the wiring
- microphone check
- new HK amplifier
- new iPOD kit.

It has been done, it can be done. It will be a little more involved than what the forum can supply. The main reason being that you have to investigate in detail what the Teleaid requirements are.

It is known that your amplifier is all wrong for this headunit and wont work. Same applies to the ipod kit.

The reversing camera will just plug in. It does need some coding though.

Hello

The "trouble" you have here is the HK system, if you did not have that you would save a lot of time and effort..

You will need
OEM HK main loom (from Mercedes dealer)
OEM HK subwoofer loom (ditto)
MY2009 HK Amp (nb, there are a couple on eBay in USA at the moment)
MY2009 Subwoofer amp ( Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: W211 last E, W219 CLS :: HK Subwoofer Amplifer for NTG2.5 COMAND )
Some time and effort installing above

Wiring adapter kit (Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: W164 ML/GL & W251 R :: A/B/CLC/ML/GL/R COMAND NTG2.5 (Hard Disk) retrofit kit - cars with phone. )
About 1 hour installing that

The wiring adapter kit above includes modification info for making existing iPod kit work with NTG2.5. The reason I have said use the wiring adapter kit for cars with phone is that as you have pre-wiring I have assumed your car has the microphones already.

I would not fit the kenwood camera, fit the OEM camera as the head unit can then be coded to display 'reversing lines' on the image and the Mercedes camera is excellent.

If you ordered ' Comand Online Ltd :: Other Mercedes Retrofits :: Reversing Cameras :: W251 R Class Reversing Camera (cars without TV tuner). ' and told them it was for NTG2.5 they would supply the right parts.

(once you login to that shop it will no longer include UK sales tax (17.5%) if you are outside Europe)

Cheers

Richard

The video feed from the camera is just composite video. The lines come from the headunit.

Item 380214471650 on ebay.com

I don't know where the amp is on a R class. Most likely in the rear somewhere. Perhaps one of the others here will know.

Cheers

Richard . .

If i buy a 2009 european comand ntg2.5 hard disc based, is it possible to update the maps to US and install it in my US car and use it ?

Would there be any other features such as radio freq range, etc that will be incompatible if i buy the Euro comand and use it for US ?

thanks

No, EU systems do not work in USA and vice-versa. Maps won't load even when old ones are deleted.
